Viking Rafting receives Vakinn´s quality and environmental certification
Viking Rafting recently received Vakinn´s quality and environmental certification. The company, which began operations in 2013, offers rafting tours on the East and West Jökulsá Rivers in Skagafjörður. "From the start, the company has been resourceful and sustainable in its operations, as it’s a small company with limited income, making it necessary to be creative and solution-oriented," says Ragnheiður Guðmundsdóttir, Viking Rafting's office manager, who also holds the title "Queen of all things off the water." "Until now, this approach has usually been out of necessity rather than part of the company’s strategy. We at Viking Rafting felt it was time to formalize these organic and nourishing work methods and make them part of the company’s strategy."
Viking Rafting applied to participate in the EU's CE4RT project, which stands for Circular Economy for Regenerative Tourism. "The reason Viking Rafting applied to participate in this project is that we lacked the knowledge and resources to embark on such a journey. We knew that in order to make sustainability part of the company's strategy and move closer to green quality certification, we needed all the help we could get," says Ragnheiður.
"The focus quickly shifted to Vakinn, as that certification is best suited to the activities Viking Rafting offers. With the help of Guðný Káradóttir from VSÓ Consulting, we were able to frame the company’s vision and sustainability efforts and create an action plan for future goals related to regenerative tourism. We at Viking Rafting are very excited about the future and all the exciting projects that await us, and we are also very proud of the goals the company has already achieved, such as the Vakinn quality and environmental certification.
The Icelandic Tourist Board congratulates the owners and staff of Viking Rafting on their impressive achievement.
