Along with the Icelandic Tourist Board, there are number of other institutions and organizations that conduct research and compile data relative to the tourism industry in Iceland.
Statistics Iceland (Hagstofa Íslands)
Statistics Iceland, the government statistical organization, collects monthly data from accommodation establishments. The monthly reports specify the number of visitors, overnight stays and occupied rooms as well as supplying data on the accommodation available at each establishment. Statistics are broken down by region, type of accommodation and nationality of visitors. The statistics can be accessed directly on their website.
The Icelandic Tourism Research Centre (ITRC)
The Icelandic Tourism Research Centre (ITRC) is a cooperative project between the University of Iceland, the University of Akureyri and Hólar University. The ITRC's board is mandated by representatives from the three universities as well as representatives from The Icelandic Tourist Board and The Icelandic Travel Industry Association. The ITRC receives funding and goodwill from all of these along with backing from government funds. Their research can be directly accessed through their website.
The Icelandic Travel Industry Association (SAF)
The purpose of the Association is to promote and protect the common interests of its member companies and support its members in the improvement of their services and operations. The Associations slogan is “Professionalism in Travel and Tourism” and it actively promotes professionalism, quality and safety among its members through training and education. SAF regularly publishes summaries and analyzes of the economy and the position of the tourism industry in the context of various aspects of the economy.
