This easy 3 km trail around the Blikastaðir peninsula is accessible to all. Beginning at the Hlíðarvöllur parking lot by the Mosfellsbær golf course, the paved path meanders between golf courses until it reaches the coastal trail leading to Leiruvogur. Turning left, you'll walk alongside the sea, enjoying stunning views of Esjan and Akrafjall. Continue along Blikastaðanes and turn left once more to circle back to the coastal path's start, then retrace your steps through the golf course to the parking lot.
Blikastaðanes is nestled within a conservation area stretching from Blikastaðakró to Leirufjörður. It's a vital birdwatching spot, particularly during the brent goose (branta bernicla) migration in spring and as a winter feeding ground for purple sandpiper (calidris maritima). The area serves as a layover for migratory birds, especially shorebirds, and is a habitat for harbor seals. Its ecological significance is also attributed to the shallow waters, rich marine sediments, and expansive mudflats.
