This route starts at Vídalínskirkja Church, and it is ideal to start or end the walk by visiting the Minjagardur at Hofsstaðir. Relics of the second largest settlement hut in Iceland were found there. You start the walk along residential streets and Holtstún where St. Jósef's sisters lived until 1998. On the way to Lake Vífilstaðarvatn you can see Vífilsstaðir, but from 1910 a tuberculosis asylum operated there until the epidemic had mostly subsided. Next, walk in the direction of Vífilstaðarhlíð and from there in the direction of Urriðaholt. You have to walk a short distance on the edge of Flóttamannavegur road before you get to the path at Urriðarholt, but the Natural History Institute's house faces there on the way. Go over the bridge that crosses Hafnarfjörður road and to a path that goes through the rugged Hafnarfjörður lava. The path then goes through Flatir and back to Vídalínkirkja church, where the walk started.
