Heiðmörk 7,5 km blá leið

In Heidmörk you can find countless footpaths in wonderful surroundings and the routes are well marked. The Vatnahringur is a 7.5 km walking, running or cycling route in Heidmörkin that is marked with blue markers. By car, you drive into Heidmörk along Rauðhólavegur from Þjóðvegur 1, this route starts at the Borgarstjóraplan but more parking spaces can be found in Heidmörk where you can also park. On this route you walk past Elliðarvatn and other smaller lakes such as Helluvatn, Hraunhústjörn and Myllulækjatjörn. Educational signs with various types of information about birds, plants, trees, geology and the history of the area have been installed by the forest department along the way, and the signs are decorated with the beautiful drawings by Brian Pilkinton and others.
