From Digraneskirkja, you walk to Himnastiginn, which is a footpath that leads up from Kópavogsdalur and up to Digranesheiði. There are 207 steps, the difference in height is almost 52 meters and the length is about 360 meters. It is especially popular among walkers and runners as it is well suited for endurance training. When you get to the top of the steps, you continue to increase the ascent as the route continues to Víghóll. There is a very beautiful view from Víghóll, but they were protected as a nature reserve in 1983. There you can find glacially eroded gray boulders, so-called whalebacks. The glacier lines indicate the direction of the glacier that covered Kópavogur at the end of the ice age. There is an observation deck and a sign that tells about the geologic history of the area.
Then you continue your walk and go over to the Digranes sports hall and down a winding footpath that some have wanted to call Heljarslóð. In winter, there can be snow and ice in the area, so it is wise to consider the use of spikes that are suitable for the conditions.
