Arnar Már Ólafsson new Director General of the Icelandic Tourist Board
Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Culture and Business Affairs, has appointed Arnar Má Ólafsson as Director General of the Icelandic Tourist Board.
Arnar Már has decades of management experience in tourism and most recently worked as leader of marketing at Icelandia. He has a masters degree in international marketing and tourism studies from the Université de Savoie.
Previously, he worked for years with Icelandic Mountain Guides and Iceland Rovers, as well as having worked as a tourist guide for many years. Arnar has also worked as a teacher in tourism studies at the University of Iceland, a lecturer and director of tourism studies at the University of Akureyri and director of the Icelandic Tourism Research Centre.
The appointment is for five years, according to the principle of appointment of heads of state institutions. Arnar Már will take over as Director General on March 1, 2023, but until then, Elías Bj. Gíslason, Director of Quality and Development at the Icelandic Tourist Board, will be acting as such.
